Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today opened its landmark AFC Football Management Diploma (FMD) online programme to 30 aspiring Asian football leaders from the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs) and Regional Associations (RAs) as well as Independent Stakeholders.

Now in its fourth edition, the FMD is designed to nurture participants’ capabilities to enable them to elevate the standards of Asian football.

Participants will attend virtual, class-leading lectures, engage in constructive dialogue, sit for quizzes and benefit from high-level business discussions as part of a dynamic 13-month curriculum.

Sessions comprise 460 hours of study time covering 12 core modules - the Organisation of World Football, International Sports Federations, Strategic Management, Financial Management, Income Generation, Media & Communications, Event Management, Operational Management, HR Management, Child Safeguarding & Social Responsibility, Sports Law and Club Licensing.

These modules are aimed at strengthening participants’ understanding of how football management shapes and informs the modern game. They will enhance problem-solving,

decision-making and analytical skills, which form an integral part of today’s football business.

In launching the programme, AFC Deputy General Secretary – Member Associations, Vahid Kardany said: “A world-class Confederation requires a strong and vibrant pool of administrators and as future senior leaders of the beautiful game, our participants hold the keys to unlock the endless possibilities and promise of Asian football.

“The FMD programme emphasises the key aspects of the football ecosystem that will allow them to ensure the AFC charts a new era of success in the years and decades to come.”

He added that the FMD’s curriculum was matched by the pivotal experience of working

together as a team and peer learning and hoped participants would inspire each other on the importance of professionalism and good governance.

The FMD is a milestone in the way the AFC delivers its educational programmes. It was introduced under the AFC Academic Centre of Excellence (ACE), an online educational platform launched in September 2021 to develop the skillsets and expertise of future leaders.

The inaugural FMD kicked off in November 2021, the second in January this year and the third in May. The programme has seen increased enrolment since its first edition.

Select FMD participants had been extended positions within the AFC and have been promoted by their MAs and RAs for their outstanding performance.
